How Long Does MIS Bunion Surgery Take?
What to expect on the day of your minimally invasive bunion surgery.
Procedure Duration
The actual MIS bunion surgery typically takes 30-60 minutes per foot. This is often shorter than traditional open bunionectomy due to the smaller incisions and less tissue manipulation required.
Your Full Day at the Surgery Center
Plan to be at the surgical facility for approximately 3-4 hours total:
- Check-in and preparation: 45-60 minutes
- Anesthesia preparation: 15-30 minutes
- Surgery: 30-60 minutes
- Recovery room: 45-90 minutes
Anesthesia Options
MIS bunion surgery can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation (most common), ankle block, or general anesthesia. Your surgeon and anesthesiologist will discuss the best option for you.
Going Home Same Day
MIS bunion surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning you go home the same day. You will need someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours.
