Bunions

Bunions occur when your big toe experiences pressure that pushes it inward toward the second toe, resulting in misalignment of your big toe as well as possible inflammation and swelling. A number of things can cause bunions including excessive pronation, flat feet, and wearing improper or ill fitting shoes. Family history also plays a role in developing bunions.

Bunions can be painful and result in swelling, joint pain, and skin irritation. Symptoms generally develop gradually over time. Bunions can cause other problems as well, including ingrown toenails, corns or calluses, and hammer toes.

Treatment can provide pain relief for bunion sufferers. Serious bunions that cause a lot of pain may require surgery.
